Afterglow

In a bid to make something of my life

I seemed to have lost myself along the way

They say what is living without strife

But why does it have to be everyday?

In the emptiness that continues to grow

And movements that begin to slow

What is the point anymore?

Nothing to learn from this lore

Only hope for an afterglow

Cycles

This day this year has

been grey without your presence

And I wish you peace.

Sunflower

The sun only exists in this flower

With it too, I shall wither

Who can say for certain

If anything lasts beyond this lifetime.

Another Marked Date

A passing moment
is drawn in eternity
in my very life.

A Petal Life

 I'm walking along
The veined map of this petal
Right before it falls.

Crowned

Weaved a flower crown
To adorn my head today
For another year.

31 Steps

And I'm finally here
Finally brave enough to move
Toward who I want to be.

And it only took me
31 years
To learn that it's okay

To not always wear a smile
To turn away from things
that rouse anger and sadness

To be unapologetic
for laughing too loud
or speaking my thoughts

As I look back at path marked with steps
And look forward to the vast unmarked plains
For once, I'm proud of how far I've come.

Milestone

Another notch noted in eternity.

28 Things

  1. I know exactly what sound I like in music
  2. I hate itchy throats, runny and simultaneously stuffy noses the most when I'm sick
  3. I've come to the realization that 10% of my brain is always elsewhere
  4. I always plan out, the night before, what outfit to wear
  5. I probably have more 10 different red lipsticks
  6. I prefer to eat my ice cream, not by licks
  7. It hurts me most when people don't appreciate me
  8. I think being meticulous and persistent is key
  9. I'm slowly starting to learn to let go
  10. But it's still hard saying no
  11. I like long-sleeved dresses and midi skirts
  12. Upon reflection, I think I'm a pretty lame flirt
  13. I like sleeping between two pillows
  14. I get inspired by my lows
  15. I like a really good, inky, black pen
  16. I still feel uncomfortable in the presence of many men
  17. When I have my headphones on, it's zen
  18. Been that way since the age of ten
  19. I prefer eating vegetables over fruits and meats
  20. I more than welcome the summer heat
  21. I find that I do like challenges (most of the time)
  22. What I learned is mine
  23. When I'm angry, I can feel dark tendrils emanating from me
  24.  (I can be overdramatic sometimes, you see)
  25. Colours make me happy
  26. Not speaking for a long time actually makes me yappy
  27. Sometimes I wish I can sing out loud in public
  28. If given the choice, this is still the path I'd pick.
Tradition! Not really poetry, but I tried to make it rhyme. All truths.

XXVII

All koalas all at once.
Fruli, you're my favourite.
:D

On This Summer's Day

The falling of scales
Off a fluttery pair of butterfly wings

The clouds that glide
Across wisdomed blue

The purple scent of lilac
Carried gently by the air

The whisper of trees
When the wind blows

The secret dance
Between the bird and the flower

The warm, butter sun
As warm as it is cold when it's gone

The moon, ever so radiant,
Lighting up the palm of my hand

And I, still the same,
Still changing.

Vingt-six

It's a watercolour world
All these raindrops, teardrops
On my paper
Dancing into invisible shapes.
Then you came along
With all your pretty colours,
Diffusing on my page,
Swirling and mesmerizing
Telling stories
Singing songs
Of how you have influenced me,
Strangers and lovers.
It's a watercolour world.

L'enfant de la lune

And it is the only light
In the dark, dark sky

Always remaining,
Always changing.

I see it in my eyes
Its reflection

A familiar sight
A different time.

I am changed
I am the same,

Another phase
An oscillation of tides;

Intrepid moments
Internalizations

Agonizing thoughts
Ardent fervor

It is an introspection
It is still the same story;

I am all of the darkness
And the only light.

La lune

Quand la horlage a sonné douze,
Je m'ai redressée sur mon lit,
Dans le silence, dans l'obscurité,
Mon esprit, silencieux.
L'année passée et hier,
Ils me encore hantent

Je me souviendrai toujours

Day

The light breaks through the dark,
An ever-occurring mark,
And consumes the dusk
Diffusing a dewy musk

The light ruffles the leaves outside my window
I crack open my curtained eyes to the moving row
of trees and I smile at the sight
As I reach my hand up at the imagined height

I close my eyes and felt the rays
On my face, like your fingers' caress from long-ago days
And I savour it, absorbed by my skin,
The fragmented light, my pupils are now drinking in

The day is like any other I've collected in my heart
But I still love it like a beautiful piece of art
Something that I cannot part
with, because it marks a new age's start

Today marks the first day of the twenty-second year of my life.
I don't feel any different, honestly, but I do feel that my day was brighter.
Another birthday I will remember, for sure. <3

Vingt-et-un, XXI

I have collected two decades of sand
Enough to map out what is discovered of my island
And I'm bringing out a new glass
To contain the past that I will amass

There are two crosses on the calendar of my life
But life is still luminous like a bee-hive
To make the most of those X's is what I strive
Into new adventures I dive

And I can't believe how far I've come
Arms open and I welcome
Love, melancholy, experience into my home
A citizen of life, my own person I will become

I feel so fortunate and blessed
But there have been tears and blood, to be confessed
But what am I without those things?
Ergo this girl ardently celebrates them, she sings!

There is excitement, fear, and high anticipation
And to love, to courage, to hope, I seek inspiration.

We Are

We are flesh and bones
Machinery that is
Capable of creation and destruction.

We are fragile,
But strong-willed
Empowered by surges of what we feel.

We are kind and cruel
Altruistic,
Psychopathic.

We are beautiful and ugly
Naive and innocent,
Selfish and superficial.

We are all the same
Yet individualistic.

We
Are
Human.

Chapter 79

Amidst the chaos
I found myself
At a loss
I searched the bookshelf
For an answer
Scattered, confused pages
Catching cancer
Was I to be doomed for ages?
But I will not be defeated
And I will find myself again
My fears all fleet'd
Yes it will be a gain
As the chapters go on
I will find the light
And though the pressure weighs a ton
I will push with all of my might.
